The National List of Attorneys (NL) is pleased to announce that beginning Monday, Feb. 4, 2013, they will publish one white paper each day for 50 business days. An attorney or law firm in each state in the U.S. will provide a white paper regarding the debt collection laws specific to that state. The white papers will be available to all visitors who register on the NL website.

Who will benefit

“50 White Papers in 50 Days” will be a valuable reference source to creditors and law firms who are seeking to file a claim out-of-state. One NL member attorney from each state was asked to write a 3-10 page paper covering the collection-law issues on an outline provided by The National List. Each lawyer selected is active in the debt collection industry and has been a reliable and knowledgeable source of information for NL and their clients.

“The positive response to our request was inspiring,” said Beverly Unrath, NL Director of Business Development. “The attorneys we asked were pleased to participate in this project, and could immediately see the value this body of information would have in the industry. We are pleased to be able to provide this state-specific information to creditors, collection agencies, debt buyers and NL attorney members who are looking for attorneys nationwide.”

Topics covered include, but are not limited to:

  • The laws regarding statute of limitations, written contracts, bad checks and civil penalties.

  • Debt collection licensing, bonding and other regulations relevant to collections professionals and lawyers not licensed to practice within that state.

  • Practices related to commercial and consumer collections.

  • Costs related to court filing fees and process-serving options.

  • Significant cases brought by the State’s Attorney General, or ethics opinions passed down from the State Supreme Court related to debt collection.

Blog about author posted daily on InsideARM

On the day that each paper is published, a blog will be posted on InsideARM giving additional information about the author &/or law firm. A link will take the reader directly to the corresponding paper, or you can find all of the papers that have been published under Legal Resources on the National List Home Page.

“The National List would like to thank all of their member attorneys who participated in this project,” said Unrath. “We encourage debt collection industry professionals to take advantage of this valuable resource.”
